Some people struggle to get their story onto a page.
Is this you?
Is there simply too much information in your head and you don't know where to begin, what to say in which order, or how to finish it?
Instead of sweating over a lot of rambling paragraphs, try this:
➡ Create a timeline of the important events. This will help you select the most interesting facets of your story.
➡ Decide whether to start at the end of the story and work backwards or the beginning and work forward.
➡Or, to create an impact, start right in the middle. Catapulting your readers straight into the middle of things with an eye-popping paragraph or an arresting quotation is great for grabbing their attention.
➡Then fill in the background as you move them through the narrative.
Once you've got the bones of your story written, it's time to be brutal; edit like there's no tomorrow!
If it doesn't flow well or sounds disconnected in places, that's because it probably is. One idea or point should flow smoothly into the next.
Check your spelling, grammar and punctuation and sense check it by reading it aloud. Clumsy phrases or sentences that are out of place will quickly show up when you read to your imaginary audience.
If, on the other hand, this all sounds like too much faff, then give me a call and I'll do the storytelling for you.
After all, it's what I do best, so why settle for anything less?
