Tom Higgins joined the Laing business in 1981 as a trainee quantity surveyor. During his career, Tom has held several roles including QS, Commercial Manager, Commercial Director and Business Leader. As a Mancunian, Tom has been proud to be involved in the successful delivery of many of Manchester’s iconic construction projects over the years; including The Bridgewater Hall, City of Manchester Stadium, Aquatic Centre and a programme of Manchester Schools.
In 2012, Tom became Laing O’Rourke’s Business Leader in the north and has taken a central role in continuing to develop the company’s presence in the North West, helping to secure the prestigious transformation of Manchester’s Town Hall Extension and Central Library and led the tender for the Manchester Airport Transformation Programme. Tom is currently responsible for the preconstruction element of Laing O'Rourke's major projects.
An advocate for improving the image of construction, Tom takes an active role in school engagement activities and led a working group within Manchester to tackle the gender imbalance prevalent in the industry.
He is a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.
