Dorothy Lynch
Development manager at Frea
Fréa

Dorothy Lynch is the Development Manager at Fréa, where she combines the fundraising activities of the three Fréa partner charities (Irish Community Care based in Liverpool, Irish Community Care Manchester, and Leeds Irish Health & Homes) to maximise the sustainability of each organisation. As part of her role, Dorothy set up the Women of Irish Heritage (WIH) Professional Network in the North of England to bring together Professional Women of Irish Heritage to support each other professionally and celebrate their common heritage and shared interests through events and networking. Funds raised at the events go to support the work of the Fréa partner charities.

Prior to joining Fréa, Dorothy held the post of Development Manager at the University of Liverpool’s Institute of Irish Studies responsible for Event Management, Public Relations, and Fundraising. She conceived the idea of inviting the President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins, and the King Charles III to become joint patrons of the Institute, which she successfully negotiated and arranged for both patrons to visit the University. She also created and launched the Institute’s prestigious Annual Seamus Heaney Lecture series as well as many fundraising and public events for the Institute in Liverpool, including St Patrick’s Day Balls, Sporting Dinners, Golf Day, Conferences, Public Lectures and Seminars.

Throughout her career, Dorothy has worked at the highest levels, with several Presidents of Ireland, the Royal Family, ambassadors and embassies, government ministers, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, the Chairs and Chief Executives of major companies and universities, international celebrities, playwrights, authors, artists, and journalists.

Dorothy Lynch began her career working for public relations consultancies in Ireland and Britain, reaching director level in both countries. She developed an excellent reputation working in fashion, retail, B2B and crisis management PR accounts for high profile brands including Canon, Fisher Price, Knorr, Napolina, Cow & Gate, Littlewoods, AirFix, and the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Fund Foundation. Using advanced communication and negotiation skills, Dorothy helped her clients to build brand awareness and maximise media attention.

Dorothy hails from County Kerry. She enjoys working with the Irish community in Britain as it makes her feel close to home. Dorothy’s mother was from Waterville and a native Irish speaker, her father was a businessman and farmer, having inherited the family farm in Kilgarvan. Dorothy has a passion for Irish literature, poetry, and music.
