Offshore Solar was established by Sean McNeill in the United Kingdom in 2023. Sean, a passionate individual from the renewable energy and sustainability sector, felt compelled to create a positive impact. Recognising the challenges of onshore solar farm development due to land constraints in the UK, set against the backdrop of the imperative to achieve a net-zero energy grid by 2035, he turned his attention to the expansive seas and oceans surrounding the UK as a potential solution. Through thorough investigation, Sean also identified that this dilemma extended beyond the UK, affecting many smaller nations globally. Motivated by this realisation, he embarked on creating a platform to facilitate the establishment of sea-based solar farms, inspiring the name of the enterprise - Offshore Solar.
