The Big Cat Sanctuary (Registered charity number: 1104420)
We are a registered animal charity dedicated to the rescue, welfare and conservation of wild cat species. In 2025, we proudly celebrate 25 years of unwavering commitment to protecting some of the world's most endangered and iconic cats through rescue efforts, welfare initiatives and conservation programmes.
Nestled in the heart of the Kent countryside, our Sanctuary is home to around 40 cats from 14 different species, from the majestic Amur tiger, the largest big cat on Earth, to the elusive rusty-spotted cat, the smallest. Seven of these species are classified as vulnerable or at risk of extinction on the IUCN Red List.
Each of our resident cats has a unique story. Some have been rescued from dire circumstances, others have arrived from zoos and many are part of vital breeding programmes aimed at ensuring the survival of their species. Every cat in our care plays a role in our larger goal, to protect and preserve wild cats for generations to come.
Mission
Our mission is to safeguard the future of wild cats worldwide. Through critical rescue operations, strategic partnerships with conservation organisations and dedicated support for breeding programmes, we are making a lasting impact. Guided by our five core pillars - Conservation, Rescue, Welfare, Breeding and Education, we are committed to protecting these magnificent cats and ensuring their survival for generations to come.
Vision
Our vision is to be a global leader in wildlife conservation, dedicated to protecting wild cats and highlighting their crucial role in maintaining ecological balance. Through education, advocacy and action, we strive to raise awareness about biodiversity and drive global efforts to safeguard wildlife habitats.
